Annie McKinley wins SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Accolades

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore center back Annie McKinley earned the SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award for games through Sunday, Sept. 11, the league office announced today.

McKinley had a key role in a big weekend for CMS, which picked up 1-0 wins over No. 6 MIT and Williams to win the Manchester College Cup in Vermont. McKinley anchored the defense to two shutouts from her center back position, including holding top-10 MIT to just one shot on target.

In addition to her defensive contributions, McKinley also came forward to add the game's only goal against the Engineers, heading in a corner kick to give the Athenas the big win (she almost did it again against Williams with the score 0-0, but her header was cleared off the line by a defender).

CMS will be back in action when it opens SCIAC play on Wednesday night with a home game against Redlands at 7 p.m.
