CMS shuts out Redlands on Senior Day

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team beat Redlands 1-0 at a Saturday matinee on Pritzlaff Field. The Athenas advanced into fourth place in SCIAC after today's win over the Bulldogs.  Satuday's game also marked Senior Day for five current Athenas and recognition of team members from the '87 and '88 SCIAC Champions returning for the Alumni game tomorrow.

Before the game, seniors Hannah Dunham, (Scooby) Lauren Phillips, Kerry Moller, Shaundra Ullman, and Lauren Allen joined their respective families on the field to celebrate their careers as Athenas.  The class has an overall record of 35-27-13 after Saturday's win.

At half time, the winners of the only back to back SCIAC Championships (1987 & 1988) in program history were welcomed onto the field to be recognized. This year is the 25th Anniversary of those championship seasons.

Saturday's matchup was a highly anticipated game as the season wanes. Redlands held the #4 spot in SCIAC standings with just one more win than the Athenas.

Junior Elizabeth Augustine scored the only goal for the Athenas with ten minutes to go in the first half. Augustine entered the game as a substitute and instantly found the back of the net in the top right corner.

CMS maintained their composure and their lead throughout the rest of regulation time to secure the win.

After today's win, CMS and Redlands share 4th place in SCIAC. The Athenas have two more regular season games vs. Occidental on Wednesday (10/30) and Whittier next Saturday (11/2).  Both games are away.
