Two quick goals earn win for Athenas

CLAREMONT, Calif. –  The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team beat La Verne 2-1 on Wednesday night under the lights.  The Athenas scored their two goals within seconds of each other and held onto their lead through the rest of the game.

The first half yielded no goals for either team but the scoreboard was not indicative of the high intensity of the game. During the first half CMS took 10 shots.

Ten minutes into the second half Marisella Macias scored an impressive goal for the Leopards to break the tie putting La Verne up 1-0.

CMS answered twenty minutes later when freshman Katelyn Faust dribbled down the field and snuck a shot through La Verne's goalie's legs to even the score at 1-1.

Senior Shaundra Ullman re-entered the game and instantly contributed to the Athenas scoring their second goal as she assisted senior Kerry Moller. This marked Moller's third goal of the season.

After the rapid-fire scoring by CMS, the Leopards were unable to answer for the remainder of the game.

CMS totaled an awesome 24 shots during the game. The Athenas earned their fifth win of the season and are now 4-3-2 in SCIAC.  This win sets the team up nicely for the upcoming 6th Street Rivalry game this weekend.

The Athenas go across the street to face Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday (10/19) at 11am.
