CMS Comes Up Short to Pomona-Pitzer In Heart Breaking Loss

CLAREMONT, Calif. –  The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team lost to Pomona-Pitzer 2-1 on Wednesday evening at Pritzlaff Field.  The Athenas tied up the game late in the second half to force an overtime period but could not pull out the win.

The Athenas came out strong in the first half but their aggressiveness caused an abundance of offside calls.

The game remained scoreless through almost the entirety of the first half until sophomore M Julia Dohner scored for the Sagehens in the 42nd minute, assisted by freshman D Jamie Kerester.

With time waning in the second half, a foul was called on a Sagehen player and senior F Lauren Phillips took the free kick from outside the goal box on the right. Freshman D Hannah Rosenberg tied up the game with a superb header goal making the score 1-1 with just over two minutes remaining in the second half.

After regulation time the score was 1-1, inducing ten minute overtime periods. Unfortunately, Pomona-Pitzer scored off  freshman F Danika Bethune's shot only three minutes into overtime to end the game. CMS fought hard but were unable to come out on top in tonight's 6th Street Rivalry game.

The Athenas' record is 0-2-1 in SCIAC and they will take on Cal Lutheran this coming Saturday (9/28) at 11 am at home.
