CMS Ties Trinity In Friday Night Thriller

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team tied Trinity University (TX) with the score of 1-1 in double overtime on Friday night at Pritzlaff Field.  The Athenas took on the 6th ranked Tigers in an exciting game under the lights with both teams scoring in the second half.

It was a well-matched game from the first whistle. There were 14 total shots on goal during the first half; six by CMS and eight by Trinity. While both teams played aggressively, the game remained scoreless after the first half.

The Athenas struck in the first two minutes of the second half with a goal by junior M Elizabeth Augustine, assisted by junior F Isabel Lester.  Spurred on by the deficit, the Tigers had 16 shots on goal during the half.  Senior GK Hannah Dunham recorded six saves including two especially outstanding efforts. The Athenas defense came to the rescue when freshman D Hannah Rosenberg blocked a shot on an open net. Trinity scored with ten minutes remaining in the second half with freshman F Endaisia Love's unassisted goal.

At the end of regulation time, both teams and the fans were ready for more action. The Tigers amassed four more shots on goal but Dunham notched three additional saves and kept the overtime periods scoreless. Time ran out with the score remaining at 1-1.

The Athenas host St. Olaf (MN) on Sunday at 10 am.
