Three Second Half Goals Lead Concordia To A 3-1 Win Over Athenas In Home Opener

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team lost to Concordia (CA) on Sunday night in the team's season-opener at Pritzlaff Field. The Athenas led 1-0 at half time but were unable to stop the Eagles from scoring three goals in the second half for a final score of 3-1.

In the 28th minute junior F Isabel Lester knocked in a goal for CMS (0-1). On an attack by CMS the ball was loose inside the box and Lester found control long enough to put it past Concordia's keeper for the first score of the game. The Athenas maintained their 1-0 lead through the rest of the very physical first half and late into the second half.

Junior F Lauren Nunez tied the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.

The score remained 1-1 until junior F Megan Daniels for Concordia (1-0-1) re-entered the game and scored the game-winning goals to put the Eagles ahead 3-1. Daniels scored twice in the last 12 minutes of the game. She snuck one ball in the lower left corner of the net and drilled the second into the upper right corner.

Senior GK Hannah Dunham had three saves and no goals against in the first half. Concordia out-shot CMS in the second half 14-2.

The Athenas host Trinity (Tex.) this coming Friday at 7 pm.
