CMS Fails To Advance In Tournament On PK's

The women's soccer team traveled to Chapman Wednesday afternoon for a SCIAC Tournament Semi-Final.  Both teams had tied for second in the regular season and had split results in their previous matches.  From the kick off, it was apparent that the game would be a battle.  Both teams played tough defense.  The attacks for both teams were often off of counters and good defending.  Neither team had the edge going into halftime.

The second half saw the game open up a bit, with both teams creating good chances at goal.  Chapman had two breakaway shots that went wide and CMS had a couple near misses as well.  Again, both teams fought hard and it was tied at the end of regulation.

Overtime was much the same with neither team giving up much.  After two 10 minute overtime periods, the game was still tied 0-0.  Penalty kicks would decide which team would advance to the final.  For CMS this was the third straight season facing a penalty kick shootout.  CMS scored two of its five kicks - by Samantha Kunz and Olivia Sylvester, but it was not enough as Chapman scored three of its tries and advanced.  It is another devastating end of the season for the Athenas.

The team wants to thank our four seniors who have given so much to the program - Madi Shove, Jen Najjar, Annie Belanger, and Sylvester.  You have continued to set the bar high and we promise to make you proud in the future.  Our best to you as you head off into the real world.
