Athena Soccer Beats Whittier 3-0

The women's soccer team rebounded from their loss on Saturday with a convincing 3-0 win over Whittier Wednesday night.  Senior Madi Shove scored first for the Athenas on a rebound after Isabel Lester broke free on the right side and sent a nice cross into the box.  CMS dominated much of the first half, though Whittier created chances on several dangerous counter attacks.  At half the score was 1-0.

CMS came out on fire in the second half scoring two early goals.  First, senior Olivia Sylvester dribbled down the left side of the field, cut inside to her right foot and hit a beautiful shot over the Whittier keeper's head from about 25 yards out.  Shortly there after, Shove found the back of the net again, on a through pass that put her 1 v 1 with the keeper.  She took a nice touch around the keeper, then passed the ball into the net.  The Athenas continued to threaten, but could not manage another goal.  The CMS defense held strong and were lead by Sara Tweedy and keepers Molly Freed and Hannah Dunham

The Athenas travel to Cal Lutheran for their last regular season game Saturday at 7:00 pm.  The Athenas need at least a point to earn second place outright which will earn them the ability to host a first round SCIAC tournament game.
