CMS Ties Cross Street Rivals In Battle For Second

CMS Ties Cross Street Rivals In Battle For Second

The rivalry continues between CMS and Pomona-Pitzer as the cross campus rivals battled to a 1-1 draw today in a battle for second in the SCIAC standings.  Both teams remain tied at 5-3-1.

The Sagehens had the run of play in the first half winning a lot of balls in the midfield and sparking quick counters to their two speedy forwards.  Pomona-Pitzer scored in the 37th minute when they won a 50/50 ball deep in CMS's end.  CMS keeper Molly Freed made the initial save, but the rebound ended up at the foot of the Sagehen player who shot.  That shot was saved off the line by defender Rosa Ahn, but the rebound once again ended up on the foot of a Sagehen who did not miss with the third chance.  The first half ended with Pomona-Pitzer leading 1-0.

The second half saw CMS come alive and start winning some of those midfield balls.  One win led to a CMS goal in the 55th minute when Shauny Ullman found Lizzie VanBuskirk with a quick pass in midfield.  Van Buskirk then played a ball through to Madi Shove (pictured) who finished her one v. one opportunity against the Sagehen keeper.  The rest of the second half was a back and forth affair with both teams working hard to find that go ahead goal.  Regulation ended at 1-1.  In extra time, though both teams had opportunities to win, neither team could score and the game ended in a tie.

CMS plays again Wednesday at 7:00 pm when they host Whittier.
