Athenas Shutout Tigers

The women's soccer team defeated Occidental 2-0 on Saturday to earn their first win of the 2011 season.  The Athenas improved to 1-1-2 overall and 1-1 in SCIAC.  Sophomore transfer Kerry Moller scored her first career goal in the 32nd minute off a pass from freshman Elizabeth Augustine.  The Athenas played a dominant first half doing well to control the midfield play and getting numbers into the attack.  The second half started off with a bang as junior Madi Shove dribbled her way through the defense and finished her own rebound less than two minutes into the second half.  The Athenas continued to press for the next 15 minutes, but could not net another goal.  Oxy rebounded and took control of the game for much of the latter part of the second half, but the CMS defense, led by senior Rosa Ahn, held strong and collected their second shutout of the season.  Unfortunately, defender Jen Najjar went down with a knee injury in the first half and will need further evaluation later tonight.  The Athenas take the field again Wednesday at 4:00 pm as they travel on foot to play cross-street rival Pomona-Pitzer.
