Women's Soccer Comes From Behind to Defeat Bulldogs

The Athenas (4-2-2, 2-1-1 in SCIAC) defeated the Redlands Bulldogs (4-4-0, 2-1-0 in SCIAC) at home after a hard-earned comeback in the second half of the game on Saturday.  After losing a tough game to the Occidental Tigers on Wednesday, the Athenas used this game to rebuild confidence and momentum for the remainder their SCIAC season.

The Athenas started out slow early in the game, giving up a goal to the Bulldogs in only the second minute of play.  For the remaining minutes of the first half, the Athenas battled and maintained good possession, but were unable to take advantage of a few scoring opportunities. In the second half, the Athenas threatened their opponent by creating more frequent offensive chances.  With a little less than 30 minutes to play Julia Nishioka (JR, Honolulu, HI) [pictured left] broke through the defense on a dribble and scored the equalizer after a 1 vs. 1 against the Redlands keeper. The score remained tied until the 87th minute of the game when Olivia Sylvester (SO, Seattle, WA) served the ball to Lizzie Van Buskirk (SR, San Rafael, CA) [pictured right] on the far post of the Redlands goal, who finished her opportunity to give the Athenas the win.

On Wednesday at 4:00 pm, the Athenas will take on the La Verne Leopards at home.
