CMS Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road to Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Grace Minturn had three goals, and Paige Morgan added two goals and two assists to go with a team-high six ground balls, but Colorado College was able to defend its home field and take a 15-9 win over the Athenas on Sunday.

CMS falls to 7-3 on the year with the loss, completing a busy stretch of five games in eight days, which included SCIAC wins over Chapman (Saturday) and Redlands (Wednesday), with a non-league game against No. 13 Williams on Monday, and a 1-1 Colorado trip after defeating DePauw 21-8 on Friday. Colorado College stands at 6-3 on the year with the win.

Minturn scored a goal with 10:07 left in the second quarter off a feed from Hannah Conte, but Colorado College took control with a 5-0 run to build the lead up to 9-3 with 2:16 left in the half.

CMS swung the momentum briefly, with Stella Hansot scoring with 19 seconds left in the half, and Cate Lewison opening the second half with a goal to close the deficit to 9-5. Colorado College answered, though, with two straight goals to get the lead back up to six and was able to earn the 15-9 win.

Julia Ryan had another double-digit effort in draw controls with 10, while Lewison, Morgan Natalie Teare, and Ali McEachern all had two caused turnovers.

CMS will return to SCIAC play on Saturday when it hosts Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m.
