CMS Women's Lacrosse Surges Past DePauw for 21-8 Win

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the first half and the first four goals of the second half to take a 14-5 lead and go on to take a dominant 21-8 win over DePauw on Friday at Colorado College.

With the win, CMS now stands at 7-2 on the season, with both losses coming to teams in the top 15, including a tight 13-9 loss to No. 13 Williams on Monday. DePauw slips to 5-3 with the loss.

Hannah Conte led the Athenas with four goals, while Annie Parizeau had a team-high six points on three goals and three assists. Grace Minturn added a hat trick and Cate Lewison had two goals and three assists, while Julia Ryan had 12 draw controls.

It was still a tight 6-5 game midway through the second quarter, when CMS seized control, with Minturn scoring off a feed from Conte, and Paige Morgan scoring 12 seconds later off a feed from Lewison to quickly make it 8-5.

Minturn and Conte capped off the half with goals, both off of passes from Amelia Ulmer, to make it a 10-5 lead going into the half, and the Athenas rattled off four more in the first 3:30 of the second half, with Taylor Daetz, Conte, Minturn and Ulmer all finding the net.

After DePauw ended the 8-0 run, CMS then scored the next five goals, with Ryan, Morgan and Kelsey Heffernan closing out the third with goals to push the lead to 17-6, and Lily Bishop and Parizeau starting the fourth with tallies.

The first quarter was tight throughout, but Stella Hansot ended the opening period with a goal with 17 seconds left, and Conte started the second quarter with a goal 34 seconds in, and CMS led the rest of the way.

The Athenas will remain in Colorado for their second game of the trip on Sunday, when they face host Colorado College.
