Cate Lewison Earns First-Team All-Region Honors, Bella Lynch on Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year midfielder Cate Lewison earned first-team All-Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, while sophomore midfielder Bella Lynch was selected to the second team, the organization announced this week.

Lewison and Lynch are now eligible for IWLCA All-America honors, which will be announced later this month.

Lewison adds her first-team all-region accolades following a season in which she was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, the second sport she earned that distinction after also capturing it for the women's soccer team in the fall.

As a midfielder for the Athenas, Lewison had an impact all over the field, finishing with 36 goals and 19 assists for 55 points. She also had 55 ground balls, while causing 21 turnovers and 76 draw controls, leading CMS in all three categories. She earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after a strong performance in a road win over Chapman.

Lynch led CMS in assists (32) and points (37) while ranking third in goals with 35, just five behind teammate Grace Minturn. She was twice named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, after opening the regular season with two straight three-goal, five-assist performances in wins over Whittier and Occidental, and closing it with two straight three-goal, three-assist performances in wins over Chapman and Redlands.

CMS finished the year with a 13-5 record with all five losses coming to top-20 teams. The Athenas nearly had a SCIAC Postseason Tournament title, but ended up falling one goal short in a comeback effort 13-12.
