Sally Abel, Zoe Ryan Earn Honorable Mention All-America Honors from Inside Lacrosse

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior defender Zoe Ryan and junior attack Sally Abel were selected to the Maverik Division III Women's Honorable Mention All-America team from Inside Lacrosse, the website announced this morning.

Ryan has been a standout part of the CMS team defense for the last four seasons. She was a first-team IWLCA All-West Region selection last year, and was also chosen as the 2019 SCIAC Defensive Player of the Year after helping the Athenas to their third straight SCIAC championship. She started all 34 games over the last three seasons, accumulating 72 caused turnovers and 71 ground balls in her career, including three caused turnovers and a goal in the 2019 SCIAC Championship win over Pomona-Pitzer, earning her Most Outstanding Player honors. She capped off her career by earning the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award after contributing to a shutout in a win over Cal Lutheran before the suspension of spring sports.

Abel heads into her senior season next year already ranked No. 9 in CMS history with 113 goals, despite having her junior year cut short after only six games. This season, she had 15 goals, with a season high of four in wins over Chapman and Occidental. Her fourth goal against Occidental broke a 9-9 tie in the final minutes to help CMS to a 10-9 win. Last year, she was a first-team All-SCIAC and first-team IWLCA All-West Region selection after finishing with 51 goals, including hat tricks in both the SCIAC Semifinals against Chapman and the SCIAC Finals against Pomona-Pitzer.

Ryan and Abel helped CMS to a 5-1 record this spring before the season was ended due to coronavirus pandemic. They have also been part of a program that has been 39-6 over the last three seasons, while Ryan finished her collegiate career with a 41-1 record in SCIAC contests.
