Dick and Shove Earn All-America, All-Region Honors

Sarah Dick and Madi Shove capped off the 2011 season with Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Third Team All-American selections.  Both players were also selected IWLCA First Team All-West Region.  Madeleine Bannon was selected IWLCA Second Team All-West Region.

Sophomore Madi Shove has been a standout player for the Athenas since day one. Madi followed her stellar freshman year with an even more remarkable second season. Shove was second on the team in goals this season with 73 which ranks her second all-time in program history for goals in a single season- just one goal shy of Sarah Dick's mark of 74. Shove, a First Team All-SCIAC selection, was a dominant force in the midfield contributing at both ends with ground balls, draw controls and leading the team in caused turnovers. Shove finished the season nationally ranked 14th in the nation for goals per game and helped the Athenas gain the rank of sixth nationally in scoring offense.

Sarah Dick, no stranger to accolades, adds to her long resume with First Team honors as well. Dick led the Athenas this season in both goals and assists. In her final game against Gettysburg Dick scored her 200th goal of her career and will go down as one of the most decorated players in CMS lacrosse history. She is the all-time leader in career goals and goals per season. She also is the all-time leader in points per season and second in career points behind Mallory Singer. This past season, Dick was named SCIAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row and just recently selected for the North/South Senior All Star game - a very esteemed honor.  Dick has left an indelible mark on the program and will be remembered for years to come.

Madeleine Bannon was also selected for her stand out play on the draw.  This past season the freshman averaged 5.32 draws per game, good enough to rank her 10th nationally in draw controls. Bannon, was asked to fill big shoes of graduating senior Devon Scott who helped the Athenas rank second nationally in draw controls in 2010. Bannon was able to pull down an amazing 101 draw controls this season and was a key factor in the Athenas' success. Bannon also was a contributor in the offensive end, coming on strong late in the season finishing with 19 goals and two assists. Bannon's gritty work on the draw placed the Athenas at sixth nationally for draw controls this season.

These three players were instrumental in the Athenas' success in 2011 including a #1 Regional ranking as well as well as winning a second SCIAC Championship. The Athenas fell to eventual National Champion Gettysburg College in the second round of NCAA competition in their third trip to the Sweet 16.

With the graduation of Dick, who leaves behind a long legacy of accolades, Shove and Bannon will be left to bolster the Athenas for 2012 as the Athenas reload for their third conference championship.
