Women's Lacrosse Advances To NCAA Round Of 16

CMS defeated Endicott College 21-18 in an NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse First Round matchup on Wednesday afternoon to advance to the round of 16.  CMS will play The College of New Jersey in Salisbury, MD on Saturday, May 15.  Game time will be 2:30 pm Eastern.  This is the second time CMS has advanced to the round of 16, both times coming after home wins in the first round.

Wednesday's game marked one of the highest scoring games in Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship history.  Endicott tied the record for most goals scored by a losing teams.  The teams combined for the second highest combined goal total in a half (24) and the third highest combined goal total for a game (39).

CMS (16-2) got on the board first and built up a 4-1 lead in the first 10 minutes.  Endicott (16-5) fought back and took their only lead of the game, 7-6, at the 12:25 mark.  The Athenas responded with four straight goals and the Gulls countered with two of their own when CMS was given a controversial red card.   Endicott could not take advantage of CMS being down a player for three minutes while CMS scored three goals during that time.  The Gulls scored twice in the final 30 seconds of the half to cut their halftime deficit to two, 13-11.

Endicott scored the first goal of the second half to get within one, but it would be the closest they would get the remainder of the game.  The Athenas scored seven of the next eight goals to gain a 20-13 advantage with just over 10 minutes remaining.  The Gulls did not give up without a fight scoring five of the last six goals including two in the final minute, but it was not enough and CMS held on for the 21-18 win.

Sarah Dick (SO, Beverly, MA) and Madison Shove (FR, Portola Valley) led the Athenas with five goals each with Colbi Brawner (SR, Bainbridge Island, WA) and Devon Scott (SR, Portland, OR) adding three goals each.  Jennifer Cohen (SR, Danville) led the team with two assists.  Scott led the team with seven draw controls.  Katie Campbell-Morrison (JR, Cleveland, OH) had 12 saves in goal for CMS.

Holly Davis led the Gulls with five goals off the bench.  Molly Sowles, Kristen Micho and Valerie Feldman added four goals each.  Feldman led the team with two assists and seven draw controls.  Leah Neff had 10 saves in goal for Endicott.
