Esther Lee Earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week for CMS Women's Golf

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year Esther Lee of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 12, the conference office announced today.

Lee finished in a tie for second as CMS earned the team title at the Westbrook Invite at the Lakes against a field that included No. 2 Redlands and No. 4 George Fox, marking the Athenas' second team championship of the 2022-23 season. Lee shot an even-par 71 on the second day, as CMS came back from three shots down to win by 2 over George Fox, including a huge birdie on the 18th hole to help seal it.

The win was a big bounceback for the Athenas, who finished fourth at the first SCIAC regular season championship, when they were missing No. 1 Stella Cheng all weekend, and Lee suffered a DQ on the first round before bouncing back for a 74 on the second day. Cheng and Lee finished 1-2 at the Claremont Challenge in September, when CMS finished 20 shots ahead of Redlands, which was the first team title of the season for the Athenas.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it competes at the Jekyll Island Invitational in Georgia.
