CMS Women's Golf Nine Back After First Round of SCIAC No. 1

GolfStat Scoring

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands in fourth place after the opening round of SCIAC No. 1, which is being held Saturday and Sunday at El Dorado Golf Course.

The Athenas were hurt by a disqualification for an incorrect scorecard, which left them four players to score four rounds, instead of the normal five. Redlands is in first with a +23, one shot ahead of Pomona-Pitzer at +24, with Cal Lutheran (+30) and CMS (+32) still in the hunt.

Ella Chiu is in fourth place on the individual leaderboard for CMS at +3, just two shots off the lead held by Jessica Mason of Pomona-Pitzer. Irene Jun is in a tie for seventh at +6, while Jeissy Lee is in the top 20 (tied for 17th).

Chiu had a birdie on No. 9 to take the turn at one-over. She gave up two shots on No. 11 and No. 12, but regrouped for a steady finish of six straight pars to take momentum going into tomorrow's play.

CMS will start tomorrow's round at 9 a.m., looking to make up ground and get into the hunt for the two-round victory.
