CMS Women's Golf Picked Second in SCIAC Preseason Poll

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team was picked to finish second in the SCIAC in a vote of the conference's coaches.

The Athenas ended the fall season ranked No. 11 nationally, and finished ninth at the NCAA Divsiion III Championship a year ago. Redlands is currently ranked second in the country, and was picked first in the preseason poll, earning six first-place votes, while CMS was second with 54 points and two first-place votes. 

Pomona-Pitzer, ranked No. 9 nationally and the defending conference champion, was one point behind CMS with 53 points, while Cal Lutheran, Chapman, Occidental, La Verne and Whittier rounded out the poll. 

CMS ended up not being eligible for the SCIAC title last year after it did not field enough golfers during the second regular season championship due to COVID-19. irene Jun ended up making a run at the individual title before ending third, earning second-team All-SCIAC and WGCA All-West Region honors. 

Stella Cheng joined Jun on the All-SCIAC second team and earned honorable mention All-America honors. 

CMS will be in action for the first time this spring when it competes at the first SCIAC regular season championship on Saturday and Sunday at El Dorado Golf Club in Long Beach.
