CMS Women's Golf Stands in Third Place after First Day of Westbrook Invite

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands in third place after the first round in a tight battle at the Westbrook Invitational at the Lakes, hosted by George Fox on Saturday afternoon at Westbrook Village Golf Club.

Host George Fox, ranked No. 4 in the nation in Division III in the GolfStat computer rankings, leads at +13 after the first day, while No. 8 Redlands is second at +17 and the Athenas (ranked No. 9) are tied with No. 22 Illinois Wesleyan at +19. Trinity (No. 17), Bethel (No. 28) and UC Santa Cruz (No. 26) round out the field, which is made up of seven Division III schools all ranked in Golfstat's top 30. 

CMS had its top four individual finishers all bunched within two shots of each other. Stella Cheng and Grace Lu are both tied for ninth after shooting at 74 (+3) on the opening round. Lauren Fue is tied for 12th with a 75 after ending her day with two birdies on her final four holes, while Irene Jun is tied for 14th at +5 heading into tomorrow's final round. 

Lexi Onsrud and Emma Thorman of Illinois Wesleyan are tied for the individual lead at -3, while Makensie Toole of George Fox also shot in the red at -1. 

The second and final round of the Westbrook Invitational will get underway tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
