CMS Women's Golf Holds Two-Shot Lead after Day One of First SCIAC Tournament

VENTURA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team stands two shots ahead in first place after the first of two rounds of the first SCIAC regular season championship on Saturday at Olivas Links.

CMS had a 293 (+5) over its first 18 holes, two shots ahead of the 295 recorded by Pomona-Pitzer. Redlands is in third place with a 311. 

The Athenas have three of the top four individuals on the leaderboard through the first round, as Jeissy Lee shot a -1, just one shot behind Emily Chang of Pomona-Pitzer. Irene Jun shot an even par 72, and Stella Cheng is close behind in a tie for fourth at 74. Lauren Fue was the fourth scorer for CMS in round one with a 76, tying her for ninth in the field. 

Jun twice had back-to-back birdies in her round of 72, netting them on No. 3 and No. 4 on the front nine and then again on the back nine at No. 14 and No. 15. 

Tomorrow's action gets underway in the morning, as the Athenas will look to finish first in the opening SCIAC Tournament of the 2022 season.
