Athenas Lap Field, Win Cal Lutheran Invite

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished the Cal Lutheran Regals Invitational on top of the leaderboard with a two-day total of 621 (+45) to win the tournament by 29 strokes over Cal Lutheran. The Regals finished in second with a team score of 650 (+74). In addition to their team victory, Margaret Loncki (CMC) and Mira Yoo (CMC) finished in first and second in the 49-player field to lead the Athenas.

Playing at Sunset Hills Country Club, Margaret Loncki earned medalist honors with a two-day total of 146 (+2) after rounds of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1). She was the only player in the field to fire a round under-par on the 5,807 yard course, with a one-under, 71 on Tuesday. Just four strokes behind Loncki was Mira Yoo with a score of 150 (+6).

Yoo tied for the second-best round in the field on Monday, shooting a four-over, 76, before shaving two strokes off her score for a round of 74 (+2) on Tuesday. She finished five shots clear of third-place finisher, Cal Lu's Marissa McCardell (76-79—155).

The Athenas had the chance to see four other SCIAC opponents during the tournament with Cal Lutheran, Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands, and Occidental in attendance at Sunset Hills this week. As mentioned, the Regals finished in second-place with a total of 650. Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands finished in third and fourth with scores of 658 and 678, respectively. Occidental rounded out the Athenas' SCIAC foes with a sixth-place finish with a score of 699.

All eight of the Athenas in the field turned in better rounds on Tuesday than they did on Monday. Playing as an individual in the tournament, Camille Simon (HMC) dropped nine strokes overnight and fired a 77 (+5) on Tuesday to card a two-day total of 163 (+19), finishing in a tie for eighth place. Kelly Ransom (CMC) finished just one stroke ahead of Simon in a tie for sixth place with a total of 162 strokes (+18). Ransom shot rounds of 83 (+11) and 79 (+7) to post the third lowest score for the Athenas.

Emily Attiyeh (CMC) finished in a six-way tie for 11th place after shooting rounds of 87 (+15) and 78 (+6), matching Simon's nine shot difference between Round One and Round Two.

Taylor Hughes (CMC), Emma Kang (CMC), and Teressa Ulrich (CMC) finished just two strokes apart with scores of 168 (+24), 169 (+25), and 170 (+26), respectively.

The Athenas will waste little time between tournaments. CMS is set to tee it up in the Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend in Jekyll Island, Ga. Round One of the three day tournament gets underway on Friday and play continues through the weekend.
