Low round of the day lifts Athenas into second place

BEAUMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team went from fourth to second place after an excellent round of 314 on day two of the SCIAC Championships. Three Athenas improved from their first round scores and now sit in the top-10 of the tournament.

Freshman Kelly Ransom (CMC) shot a four-over 76 today to bump her from eighth place to fourth overall. Reigning champion, sophomore Margaret Loncki (CMC) posted a 77 in round two, much improved from the 83 in the first round to bring her up into a tie for seventh place with teammate sophomore Maya Bhat (CMC). Bhat was also under 80 today with a 79 to round out the Athenas in the top-10.

The field is led by Amberlynn Dorsey from Redlands who is just six over par after two rounds.

Going into the last day of the championships CMS sits at second in the tournament and second overall in SCIAC standings. The Athenas are 17 strokes behind first place Redlands and 13 ahead of third place Whittier.
