Three Athenas Finish In Top-20 At Collegiate Invitational As Team Finishes Third

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Over the weekend, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team finished in third place at the three-day, 21-team Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational at the par-72 Indian Mound Golf Course. The Athenas finished 10 shots behind first place Mary Hardin-Baylor and four shots behind second place Methodist University.

CMS began the tournament with a lead after the first day with a score of 318, five shots ahead of second place Mary Hardin-Baylor. The second day saw Mary Hardin-Baylor even the score with CMS as both teams were tied for first place. On the tournament's final day, Mary Hardin-Baylor outshot CMS by 10 strokes to earn the win with a three-day score of 954 at plus-90. CMS finished with a score of 964 while Methodist finished in second place at 960.

Junior Maya Reddy led CMS with a three-day score of 237 at 21-over par. Her best round of the tournament came in the first round as she shot a 5-over, 77 which gave her the lead after the first day. Reddy then shot a 79 in the second round and an 81 in the third round. Elizabeth Cheng of Hollins won the tournament with a three-day score of 228, nine shots ahead of Reddy. Cheng earned the win behind a strong second round of 1-under, 71 that gave her the lead which she would hold onto the rest of the tournament.

Sophomore Tiffany Su also finished in the top-10 for CMS with a three-day score of 240 at plus-24. She had her best performances in the second and third rounds, shooting a 7-over, 79 on both days. Sophomore Marissa Suehiro tied for 16th with a score of 242. She shot a tournament low of 78 in the second round. Sophomore Shaina Raskin (245) finished tied for 23rd while freshman Caroline Belmont (286) tied for 94th in the 119 player field.
