Athenas Finish Third At Lady Bulldog Classic

Athenas Finish Third At Lady Bulldog Classic

At the Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by the University of Redlands , the CMS women’s golf team had a tough first day finishing third out of four teams. The team took the course by storm on day two of the tournament, earning the low team total for the day finishing with a 351.

Freshman Brittany Isobe (Honolulu, HI) carried the team placing third in the tournament overall, taking the team low on day one with a round of 84, and matching that score on day two. Isobe started the first day off with a bang, sticking a six-iron to four feet and draining the putt for birdie on the first hole. Freshman Lauren Buchanan (Los Altos) shot an 82 on the second day, snatching the team low for the Athenas. Buchanan sunk an 18-footer for par on eight, a tricky par three with a lake that claimed a lot of victims throughout the two days. Athena Kacie Curd (Englewood, CO) takes most improved for the tournament, subtracting an impressive 12 strokes from Day 1 to Day 2. Curd had an exceptional birdie on hole 17, sticking an eight-iron to the back of the green, which was guarded by two traps and a lake, and tapping in a three-inch putt for a birdie. Captain Camilla Dorment (Washington, DC) posted a consistent 94 on both days, with a brilliant birdie on the 14th hole, a long par five. Freshman Lauren Shaib (Yorba Linda) posted an impressive 98 on day two, aided by her clutch shot over a tree with her sand wedge, sticking it to seven feet. Senior Abby Pfeil (Lake Geneva, WI) dropped a 25 footer to save par on number 15, a tricky par four with a three-tiered green.

On the opposing teams, Occidental's lone star Tori Leon, took the classic championship home with a 165 total.  UC Santa Cruz took the first place trophy for the team competition with a total score of 693, closely followed by George Fox University with a 706, and our very own CMS posted a 729, beating host team Redlands by 11 strokes. The team took an impressive victory with low round on day two of the tournament and hopes to continue this same winning streak at their Occidental match on March 2nd.
