Bio

Brian Kays enters his second year as an assistant coach with the CMS Women’s Basketball Program for the 2017-18 season which will be his 19th year in the profession.  Brian was most recently the Head Coach at St. Lucy’s Priory High school in Glendora who competed in the always-competitive Baseline League. Prior to that he was Director of Training Services for The Works Sports in Anaheim, which specialized in elite basketball training and Nike Basketball camps. Brian also spent time as a Varsity assistant for the San Dimas boys Basketball, Fullerton High School boys basketball, and Bishop Amat boys basketball which won the DIIIAA CIF Championship in 2002.

As a student athlete Brian played one season of basketball at Cal Lutheran University before transferring to San Diego State where he became the first student to serve on San Diego State’s Athletic department’s Aztec Athletic Foundation. Brian played four years of basketball at Sonora High School in La Habra California, which included a #2 county ranking behind Mater Dei and a final loss in the DIII quarterfinals.

Brian Graduated from San Diego State University in 2001 with a B.S. in Kinesiology with a Physical education emphasis, and in 2006 with a M.S. in Education from Mount Saint Mary’s College. He currently holds a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Physics. 

Beyond coaching he serves as Director of Innovation and Technology Integration at Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra, Chapter Advisor for the ECF E-nable program which provides 3D printed prosthetic upper limbs to children free of charge, and serves on the Advisory Board for WomenSPEAK, a national girl’s empowerment initiative based in Los Angeles cultivating national campus dialogue and mentoring relationships between high school and college students on gender, identity, and social justice.

Brian, his wife Monica, and their daughter Makayla reside just few miles from the beautiful CMS campus.
