Big second half boosts CMS past Leos

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team rallied after a one point deficit at halftime to beat La Verne 55-35. Junior Mara Falahee (SCR) led the team in points, rebounds and assists for a career night.

Falahee recorded her first double-double this season and second in her collegiate career with 13 points and 12 rebounds. She was 6-for-10 from the field and hit a three-pointer at the beginning of the second half, inspiring her teammates.

The Athenas scored 36 points in the second half alone on ten buckets and going 14-18 from the free throw line. Sophomore Kris Brackmann (CMC) was 7-for-8 from the line on the night.

Alyson Young (CMC) and Kailee Severt (CMC) stepped up off the bench into the post position and contributed ten points collectively, and were perfect on free throws.

Ty Wheetley-Amaya (CMC) earned her first collegiate start and rose to the challenge with eight points, five rebounds and a tangible confidence.

The Athenas next face Cal Lutheran on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Thousand Oaks. CMS ranks first in SCIAC with a 7-0 in conference record.
