Athenas supreme over Caltech 77-34

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's basketball team was on fire in the first half of its Monday night 77-34 win over Caltech. The Athenas scored 49 points in twenty minutes and then the defense held Caltech to merely ten points in the second half.

Kyra Ray (KGI) already had nine points just three minutes and eight seconds into the game. In the first half, she totaled 16 points by hitting four three-pointers and added two more buckets inside the arc.

CMS started the game on a 15-0 run, making six of their first seven shots. During the game, the Athenas shot 49.3%, the highest percentage so far this season.

Freshman Kailee Severt (CMC) was the second highest scorer with 11 points on the night. Severt commanded the paint during her 15 minutes of play and went 5-for-7 shooting.

Seventy seven points is the most points the Athenas have scored this season with the second highest being 71 against Wittenburg on Nov. 21.

All available Athenas saw time in the game. Freshmen Christina Cheledinas (CMC) and Kayalin Akens-Irby (CMC) each put up four points.

Defensively, sophomore Quinn Glosniak (CMC) led CMS with eight rebounds including three on offense. The Athenas scored 24 second chance points compared to Caltech's zero, even though the Beavers had eight offensive rebounds. Sophomore Claire Donnelly (CMC) blocked four shots by the Beavers.

For Caltech, center Kate Lewis scored 17 points including draining two three-pointers.

The Athenas (5-3) host Bethesda Christian (5-7) in the Linde Activities Center at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13.
