During the 2016-17 academic year, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic department won 14 hard-fought regular season championships in the Southern Californian Intercollegiate and its athletes were honored with many outstanding awards.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps ended the 2016-17 academic year with the program-high mark of fourth in the NCAA Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup.

During the 2017 campaign, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team was led by junior pitcher Anna Gurr (CMC) from the circle and sophomore center fielder Ande Troutman (CMC) on both sides of the ball. Both Gurr and Troutman were selected to All-Region Teams from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) for their successes this season.

La Verne forces a second championship game in SCIAC Tournament

Late inning heroics from La Verne forced the “if necessary” championship game for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team has one more opportunity at a SCIAC Postseason Tournament Championship game in 30 minutes.

SCIAC’s AQ goes to La Verne

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team came up short in the “if necessary” Championship Game of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament. The host, the University of La Verne, came back from a three-run deficit to win 4-3 and earn the SCIAC’s automatic qualification to the NCAA tournament.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team finds itself in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship game against La Verne for the second time in as many years. After the 10-1 victory over the Leos today, the Athenas emerged as the only undefeated team in this season’s SCIAC Tournament.

Troutman goes deep twice in SCIAC Tournament win

Sophomore Ande Troutman (CMC) sent two hits deep over the outfield fence to help the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team beat Whittier College 6-2 in the first round of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team has won four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournaments and all as the No. 2 seed. The Athenas finished the SCIAC regular season at 18-10 behind No. 1-seeded University of La Verne at 20-8.

Five members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team were selected to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team, as announced on Monday afternoon. Junior Anna Gurr (CMC) was honored as the Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season sophomore transfer Ande Troutman (CMC) earned Newcomer of the Year honors.

Split with Cal Lu on Senior Day

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team split with Cal Lutheran in the final home double header of the regular season. The Athenas (20-16, 17-9) won game one handily, 9-0 in five innings, but then fell 2-1 to the Regals (16-18, 13-13) in an extra innings affair.

Lopsided split for Softball at Whittier

April 22, 2017

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team split with Whittier College in a Jekyll and Hyde double header at Whittier’s Palmer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Athenas (19-15, 17-7) took game one in decisive fashion, 8-0, but then the Poets (17-19, 13-11) came roaring back in the nightcap to return the shutout, 8-0.

Athenas sweep Sagehens 1-0 and 5-1

April 21, 2017

In the second softball Sixth Street Rivalry of the season, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps earned the sweep with a tight 1-0 victory in game one and then the 5-1 win in the nightcap. The Athenas (18-14, 16-6) held Pomona Pitzer (10-26, 6-18) to just one run in 14 innings while sophomore Chloe Amarilla (CMC) went yard in the first game and freshman Kylie Hetzel (HMC) provided three RBI in the second.

Battle for top spot goes to La Verne

April 15, 2017

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team went toe-to-toe with the University of La Verne in the first game of the doubleheader but then took the 12-2 loss in the nightcap. CMS (16-14, 14-6) and ULV (23-7, 16-4) took game one through eight scoreless innings before the Leos were able to scratch the game-winner in the top of the ninth.

Comeback win in sweep of Oxy

April 14, 2017

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team earned two more wins in SCIAC play due to a shutout and then a comeback on Friday afternoon. The Athenas (16-12, 14-4) earned the sweep over Occidental College (9-19, 7-11) with scores of 7-0 and then 9-5.

One-run win in sweep of Redlands

April 08, 2017

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps softball team continued on its roll in SCIAC play with its third consecutive sweep, this time taking Redlands 6-2 and 2-1 at home. The Athenas (14-12, 12-4) played errorless defense behind junior Anna Gurr (CMC) and sophomore Chloe Amarilla (CMC) to edge out the Bulldogs (12-18, 8-10).
