Robinson with second consecutive Athlete of the Year award; Gurr, Roleder and Savard named to All-SCIAC Second Team

PASADENA, Calif. – Junior Tara Robinson earned her second consecutive Athlete of the Year award and freshman Anna Gurr, freshman Carly Roleder and junior Katie Savard received Second Team honors, as announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on May 7.

Robinson led the SCIAC in hits (43), runs (36), batting average (.512), on base percentage (.617), and stolen bases (27). Her batting average led the conference by almost 30 points and she was over 80 points higher than the next player for on base percentage. She accomplished these numbers without a single extra base hit on the season. Additionally, she was second in SCIAC for walks (22). The shortstop captained the CMS defense that boasted the highest fielding percentage in SCIAC at .974 and backed the Athena pitching staff that had the lowest ERA in conference at 2.36.

Gurr shouldered the majority of the Athenas' innings in the circle, totaling 87.1 during the SCIAC season. Her 2.16 ERA in conference games lands her third among SCIAC pitchers, just behind both First Team selections. She allowed only seven walks during the regular season and stopped up the middle of the diamond with a .975 fielding percentage. Gurr ends the season with a 13-7 record having pitched 15 complete games.

Roleder was the Athenas' homerun leader with nine on the season. This number ties CMS' single season record last set by Harmony Palmer in 2010. During the SCIAC tournament, she went yard three times including a grand slam against La Verne. Roleder hit .333 in SCIAC games, .380 overall. On two occasions during the year, Roleder was 4-for-4: against Redlands in an 8-3 victory and then in the tournament against La Verne for the 6-5 win.

Savard is honored for the third year with an All-SCIAC selection. This season, she anchored first base yet again for CMS and committed just one error on the year for a .997 fielding percentage. The junior hit .330 during the season and led the team in triples with four. Two of those triples were hit against Cal Lutheran on Apr. 11 for an 8-0 win.

Additionally, junior second baseman Brooklyn Robinson was named to the All-SCIAC Sportsmanship Team.
