Athenas Open Regional With Resounding Win

TYLER -- The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas won the first game of the 2012 Tyler, Texas Regional, 9-2, over Louisiana College on Friday at the UT Tyler Ballpark. The Athenas blasted 12 hits in the game, improving their season record to 29-13.

They now advance to play host UT-Tyler in Game 7 , set for Saturday at 6 p.m.

C-M-S struck first in the top of the first inning, on a fielder's choice by Emily Lopez, scoring Harmony Palmer.

Louisiana College (28-14) answered back in the bottom of the second inning, on a RBI single by Amanda Martin, scoring Emily Douglas.

The Athenas added two more runs in the third and fourth innings, Lopez notched her second RBI of the game in the third inning, while teammate Gracie Coburn scored on a fielder's choice.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps added on three more runs in the fifth inning, Lopez blasted a two-run homerun for her third and fourth RBI's of the game, while Amanda Banducci drove in one with a RBI double.  

With the game out-of-reach, Rebecca Ciszewski [pictured] blasted a three-run home run, making the score 9-1.  

The Wildcats' Chelsea Allen added one more run for LC in the seventh on a fielder's choice, making the score 9-2.

Louisiana College will now face host UT Tyler in game four of the regional, at 6:30 on Friday evening. A loss would eliminate the 'Cats.
