Dannaway, Pera Earn Academic All-District Honors

Steve Dannaway (SR, Honolulu, HI) and Gizelle Pera (JR, Los Angeles) were voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District baseball and softball teams, respectively, which were released today.  Both players are on the First Team in the College Division of District VIII which automatically qualifies them for the Academic All-American ballot [voting begins next week].   Dannaway is one of four infielders on the first team and Pera is one of three outfielders.

Dannaway is a physics major at Claremont McKenna College and was named First Team All-SCIAC in 2009 and 2010.  He led the Stags this season in batting average (.450), RBI (51) and hits (68).  Pera is a biology major at Claremont McKenna College and was named Second Team All-SCIAC in 2009 and 2010. She led the Athenas in runs (44), walks (22), stolen bases (12) and triples (seven).

Both players easily qualifed for the award. Nominees must have better than a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must be at least a sophomore. The award is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is presented by ESPN The Magazine.
