Matt hails from the small town of Poolesville, Maryland, where he says there's little more to do than run, study, and tip cows. After discovering that running was actually considered a sport in the 10th grade, he set about to become the very best, like no one ever was. With his lack of experience with the sport beforehand, Matt says he had a rude awakening after his first season of XC. "I used to go out at the front of the pack and try to hold on," he says, "but I soon realized that my best racing came when I sat back in the pack, waited, and then tried my best to catch them all." Says the incoming CMC freshman, "that was my real test." Matt has since learned that running is his destiny in the way that it has brought him across the land and helped him understand the power inside. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, listening to music, and saving the world from criminal masterminds with talking cats.
