CMS Men's Water Polo Falls to No. 5 UC Davis at Air Force Tourney

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's water polo team tested itself against UC Davis, the No. 5 ranked team in Division I, and ended up falling 15-5 on the final day of the Air Force Rare Air Challenge on Sunday.

With the loss, CMS slips to 2-1 on the young season, after sweeping its first two matches on Saturday on the first day of the Rare Air Challenge.

Cristian Pang had three of the five goals for CMS, giving him back-to-back hat tricks after he also scored three goals in a 20-8 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday. Luke (Bear) Weigle and Nick Kennedy also scored goals, as Kennedy stretched his goal-scoring streak to three to start his career.

CMS led 2-1 after the first quarter, as Pang scored both Stag goals in the opening eight minutes, giving his club 1-0 and 2-1 leads. UC Davis scored the first five goals of the second quarter, before Pang beat the buzzer to make it 6-3 in favor of UC Davis at the half.

However, after the intermission, the Aggies took control with a 7-0 third quarter and were able to close out the win.

CMS will be back in action at home this weekend when it serves as a co-host of the Inland Empire Classic, facing a tough slate with Long Beach State and Concordia on Saturday, and then UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego on Sunday. UC Santa Barbara is currently ranked No. 7, Long Beach State No. 9, and UC San Diego No. 11, as the Stags will face four of the top 11 teams in the country in the season's first two weeks.
