Stags Trounce Tigers On Senior Day

Saturday morning, the Stags closed the regular season SCIAC schedule with a 15-4 victory over Occidental College. The game also served as a senior day celebration, as it was the final home game for CMS seniors Michael Lee, Brian Chong, Ari Wes, Vincent Schiavoni, and Danny Polyakov. Appropriately, CMS was led by Schiavoni's four goals in the victory.

Things got underway as CMS capitalized on their first possession with an outside shot by Wes. Occidental would return the favor, however, by striking on the very next possession to tie things up at one apiece. After the teams battled for a few minutes for supremacy, it was the Stags who would find the back of the net off a center shot from Maarten Lefor. Lefor would score against almost instantly to give CMS a 3-1 lead. After an Occidental timeout, the Tigers would pick things up and score two to tie things up at three, before John Holland would ultimately score to give CMS the lead going into the break.

The second quarter saw much action, but little scoring for both teams, as neither team managed to add to their totals until the sixth minute of play, when Brian Baier capitalized on a counter-attack. Schiavoni would also score his first of the game to put the Stags up three, but the Tigers' Joe Reynolds would score on a man-up situation to pull within two at the intermission.

The Stags came out in the third with a vengeance, as this period of play saw five unanswered goals for the Stags and two penalty saves by Greg Mann. The Stags were led this quarter with back-to-back goals by Schiavoni.

Going into the final period of play up by seven, the Stags managed to not only hold their lead, but score another four goals unanswered to go up 15-4, as the final score. All players on the roster managed to see action in this period.

CMS was led by Schiavoni's four goals, while Lee and Lefor chipped in two apiece. Also scoring was Baier, Josh Thomasson, Wes, Holland, Jenson Tuomi, McClatchy Ruskin, and Polyakov. Defensively, Greg Mann collected 12 saves.
