Stags Track and Field Holds Top Spot in First USTFCCCA Ratings Index

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team holds down the No. 1 position in the first NCAA DIII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index for the 2024 season from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, presented by AthleticNET.

The rating index includes only marks from this season, and the Stags have taken an early lead amongst the teams that have gotten their outdoor seasons underway already, with Pomona-Pitzer ranked second and McMurry third. George Fox (fourth), Trinity (sixth), East Texas Baptist (seventh), Texas Lutheran (ninth) and Whitworth (tenth) also represent the region, while Chapman (13th) and Redlands (22nd) also represent the SCIAC.

CMS has 342.19 points, whith Pomona-Pitzer 56 points behind with 286 and McMurry 85 points behind with 256.88 points in third. The Stags have seven athletes with top five marks this season, as well as 12 in the top 10. 

Adam Sage (5000 meters), Colin Scanlon (400m hurdles) and Sarath Kakani (shot put) all currently rank second in the nation in their top events. Mason Ratkovich (1500 meters), and Nick Taubenheim (5000 meters) each rank fourth, while Lou DeLano (800 meters) and Hayden Beachemin (1500 meters) place fifth. 

In the top 10, Kaden Cassidy is seventh in the hammer throw, and Joshua Martinez is seventh in the 100-meter hurdles. The 4x400 relay of Scanlon, Nick Teresi, Ellis DelVecchio, and Joshua Martinez places eighth, and Jason Bowman is ninth in the hammer, and Ian Osborne is tenth in the shot put.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts the second SCIAC Multi-Dual at the Burns Track Complex, beginning at 10 a.m. with field events and 11 a.m. with track events.
