Sarath Kakani Earns SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week for Second Time

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sarath Kakani of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 17, the conference office announced today.

Kakani earned the honor after winning the shot put at the Redlands Invitational, topping the field with a throw of 52 feet, 4 inches. He was the only competitor in the field to break 50 feet.

It marked the third meet in a row in which Kakani has won the shot put, after he also took first at the Rossi Relays and in a SCIAC Multi-Dual hosted by Occidental, when he set his PR at 52'9.25" (16.08 meters). He also finished first at the OIDFE Challlenge Meet in January and came in second at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet in February.

He has also now won the SCIAC Athlete of the Week twice this season, after also winning it after the Rossi Relays, and four times in his career after taking it once as a sophomore in 2022 and once as a junior last year.

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it hosts another SCIAC Multi-Dual at the Burns Track Complex on March 30, beginning at 10 a.m.
