CMS Men's Track and Field Dominates First SCIAC Multi-Dual

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team won 13 events in a four-team SCIAC Multi-Dual, earning a 130-22 win over Cal Lutheran and a 109-38 win over La Verne at Occidental on Saturday.

Kaden Cassidy was a dual winner for CMS in the discus and hammer, winning the hammer by 12 feet over teammate Jason Bowman in second (169-10 to 157-10) with Kavin Prassana third. The same trio finished in the same order in the discus in a tighter battle with Cassidy's 133-9 just five feet ahead of Bowman at 128-0 and nine and a half feet over Prasanna's 124-1.

Sarath Kakani won the shot put with a throw of 46-0.5, leading a 1-2-3-4 CMS finish as Bowman, Jacob Yep and Grady Johnson were behind him as the only four competitors to break 40 feet. 

Nick Teresi earned a close win in the 400 meters over Shane Kawakami-Williams of Occidental, taking it by a tenth of a second (48.83 to 48.93). Ellis DelVecchio took the 800 meters in 1:54.39 by just over a second, and Hayden Beauchemin edged out Mason Ratkovich in a tight Stag battle in the 1500, winning by just over half a second (3:56.50 to 3:57.03). 

Daniel Fajardo earned another close win in a Stag vs. Stag battle in the 5000, crossing in 15:39.89 with teammate Agustin Gomez De la Vega right behind in 15:40.84. 

Evan Siegel won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.52, while Raja Batra was the steeplechase winner in 10:22.20. Colin Scanlon, Teresi, DelVecchio and Joshua Martinez took the 4x400 meter relay in 3:21.93. 

Flynn Meier and Leo Sundstrom both cleared 12-11 in the pole vault to tie for first, although Meier earned the tiebreaker and officially took first. Jonathan Holcome won the long jump with a distance of 21-10, while Kumi Selva also cleared 20 feet (20-3.75). 

CMS will be back in action next week when it returns to Occidental for the Distance and Sprint Carnival.
