Sarath Kakani Wins SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week for Stags Track and Field

Sarath Kakani of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team earned the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 25, the conference office announced today.

Kakani, the two-time defending SCIAC Champion in the shot put, set a new PR at the Rossi Relays to take first place in the event. His throw of 52'9.25" (16.08 meters) passed his previous best by almost three inches and was 1 feet, four inches better than the second-place finisher from DII CSU Los Angeles.

Kakani become the second straight Stag thrower to win the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week, after Kaden Cassidy earned it last week when he won both the discus and the hammer at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to the first SCIAC Multi-Dual, which will be hosted by Occidental.
