Sarath Kakani Earns SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior thrower Sarath Kakani captured the SCIAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 19, the conference office announced today.

Kakani, the defending SCIAC Champion in the shot put, added over two feet onto his personal PR at the Redlands Invitational to finish in second place on Friday. His throw of 52-6 moved him up from ninth place into sixth place in CMS history, and is the second-best mark in all of Division III this season.

Kakani becomes the fifth different member of the CMS men's track and field team to be honored by the SCIAC this season. Fellow thrower Jason Bowman earned it in February, while Christian Campbell, Joshua Martinez and Miles Christensen have all earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week honor. 

CMS will be back in action on April 1, when it travels to Occidental for its second SCIAC Multi-Dual
