CMS Men's Track and Field Opens 2023 Season with First Place Finish

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team opened the 2023 season with a strong effort at its host OIDFE Challenge Meet at Burns Track Complex, finishing in first place out of nine teams with 212 points to almost double up second-place Master's.

Master's had 110 points, with Chapman third with 70, followed by Pomona-Pitzer (40) and Whittier (40).

Christian Campbell had a strong effort in the sprints for the Stags, winning the 60-meter dash in 6.88 seconds and following with a 21.51 in the 200. The 60-yard dash saw the Stags finish 1-4, with Quincey Williams (7.07) second, Emmett Stralka (7.11) third and Nick Teresi (7.14) fourth. Joshua Martinez added a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.39.

CMS also had a 1-2-3 finish in the 800, with Daniel Krasemann taking first in 1:56.95, followed by Hayden Beauchemin (1:57.71) and Noah Nevens (1:58.11).

The Stags took both throwing events, as Sarath Kakani opened up his campaign with a 49-6.25 after winning the SCIAC title a year ago. Ian Osborne had the top collegiate finish in the weight throw at 44-1.50, passed only by former head coach John Goldhammer, who threw 55-1.

CMS will be back in action on Feb. 10-11 at a pair of indoor meets, with select athletes traveling to the Whitworth Invitational and the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The Stags will be back in action outdoors on Feb. 18 for the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet.
