Miles Christensen Finishes Second in 5K at Oxy Carnival, Places Fourth in CMS History

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Freshman Miles Christensen finished second out of 238 runners in the 5000 meters at the Occidental Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic with a time of 14:24.67 on Saturday afternoon, which places him fourth in CMS track and field history.

Christensen finished only behind Jack Davidson of Division I Santa Clara at the event, which featured runners from all three divisions and college graduates representing track clubs. He also finished ahead of SCIAC rival Andy Reischling of Pomona-Pitzer, a senior who came in third at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall and was sixth this afternoon.

The top spot in the 5000 in CMS track and field history belongs to current junior Thomas D'Anieri, who ran a 14:21.04 last year for the Stags. Rafer Dannenhauer is second with a 14:21.74 in 2013, and Josh Sealand is third with a 14:23.22 in 2016. 

Sophomore Stevie Steinberg also had a strong showing in the 5000, coming in with a 21st place finish in 14:46.34, while junior Wilson Ives was 33rd in 14:55.19 and freshman Kyril Van Schendel was 39th in 15:01.98. 

Sophomore Jacob Adolphe was 24th in the 100 meters in 11.66, and ophomore Daniel Addison came in 30th place in the 400 meters with a 51.92, putting him in the top half of the field, including second among Division III competitors. The top four finishers in the 100 and the top nine in the 400 were all representing the Chinese national team. 

Freshman Keizo Morgan was 12th out of 81 runners in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.15, which was sixth among collegiate competitors. The top two finishers were representing the national team of Qatar, while the top collegian was Kevin Pacheco of NAIA's The Masters College, who finished in 1:55.24.

In the field events, sophomore Jordan Venglass, junior Maxwell Knowles and sophomore Connor Schulz were 2-3-4 in the javelin. Venglass broke 50 meters (50.3) with a throw of 165 feet, while Knowles came in at 162'4" and Schulz had a top throw of 148'7". Junior Reese Peterson came in eighth in the shot put with a distance of 44 feet, one-half inch, and sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 145'6", just ahead of sophomore Michael Sill in seventh. Sophomore Ross Rainaldi tied for fifth in the high jump with a top clearance of 5'8.75" on the day. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday for the Redlands Invitational, and will then head to San Diego State from March 21-23 for the Aztec Invitational.
