Miles Christensen Named SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Freshman distance runner Miles Christensen earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Feb. 24, the league office announced today.

Christensen ran the 1600-meter anchor leg of the winning distance medley relay for the Stags at the 26th Annual Rossi Relays on Saturday, earning the fifth-fastest time in program history (10:11.79). The CMS team was up against some tough competition from scholarship programs, including UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona, which were in the front pack with Christensen for most of the final leg.

Christensen still trailed his counterpart from UC San Diego with a half-lap to go, but then kicked it into another gear on the final turn in front of Roberts Pavilion and brought home the win by almost two full seconds.

It is the second week in a row that the Stags have earned the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week. Last weekend, freshman Keizo Morgan earned the honor after winning the 400 meters at the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Redlands for the first of its three SCIAC Multi-Duals.
