Advik Mareedu Takes SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for Stags Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Advik Mareedu of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor for matches through Sunday, March 24, the conference office announced today.

Mareedu was 3-0 in singles as CMS picked up big wins over the No. 5 (Tufts), No. 3 (Middlebury) and No. 8 (Williams) ranked teams in the nation. The Stags came from behind in all three, winning 4-3 against Middlebury and 5-2 over Tufts.

Mareedu had his signature effort of the week on Saturday, when he battled the No. 4 ranked singles player in the nation and came back for a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 win. He trailed 5-3 in the third set, and had to break serve to stay in it, and was able to come through to start a 4-0 run to flip the match and give CMS a 3-2 lead.

Mareedu becomes the third Stag to win the honor this season, joining Anirudh Gupta, who won last week after getting the clincher in a 4-3 win over Bowdoin, and Warren Pham picked it up after opening week on Feb. 20.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to WashU to face the host Bears, along with Trinity and Skidmore.
