Mareedu Ranked Ninth in Nation in Singles for CMS Men's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Advik Mareedu is ranked No. 9 in the nation in singles for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team at the conclusion of the fall season, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

Mareedu earned his No. 9 position after winning his second straight ITA West Regional championship to secure All-America honors. A year ago he went on to win the ITA Cup singles title, on his way to a 30-6 record in his debut season, but he was upset in the Round of 16 this year.

Anirudh Gupta also earned a national ranking from the ITA after the fall season, holding down the No. 23 position after advancing to the ITA West Region semifinals before falling to Mareedu.

CMS competed in the fall without several players who are expected to factor into the rankings in the spring, with Matthew Robinson, Ian Freer and Warren Pham all out of action after holding down the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots in the CMS singles lineup a year ago. Robinson and Freer have also both earned All-America honors in doubles during their careers.

CMS will open the spring schedule when it hosts Point Loma and Westmont in a doubleheader on Feb. 16.
