Advik Mareedu Earns Invitation to NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After winning the national title in the ITA Cup singles championship in the fall, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps first year Advik Mareedu earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III Singles Championship, which will be held May 18-20 in Orlando, Florida.

Mareedu is 25-4 overall in singles this season for the Stags, including 16-4 in dual matches (all at No. 1 singles) and 9-0 during the fall ITA tournament schedule. He won all five of his matches at the ITA West Regionals, and then won all four at the ITA Cup to earn the national title, defeating Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the final.

In the spring, Mareedu suffered two of his losses at the ITA Indoor Championships, and then fell at No. 1 singles to Tufts and Williams on successive days on March 24-25. He then rattled off nine straight-set wins in a row before being pushed to a third set in an unfinished SCIAC Semifinal against Hayden Snyder of Pomona-Pitzer.

Mareedu and Stags will compete in the NCAA Division III team tournament prior to the individual championships in Orlando. They begin their quest for a third national title at home, facing UC Santa Cruz in a regional semifinal tomorrow at 10 a.m., with the winner facing either Trinity (Texas) or Concordia (Texas) in the regional final on Saturday at 12 p.m.
