Ian Freer Captures SCIAC Athlete of the Week Accolades for Stags Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Ian Freer of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week for matches through Sunday, March 12, the conference office announced today.

Freer won in both singles and doubles as CMS took a 6-1 win over George Fox in the only match it got in at the rainy Stag-Hen Invitational. Freer's 6-0, 6-4 win in singles came over the player ranked No. 25 in the nation, while he also added a 6-3 win in doubles.

Freer becomes the second CMS player to win the SCIAC honor this season after Matthew Robinson took it following a 5-1 weekend at the ITA Indoor Championships, including the clincher in a 5-4 win over No. 1 Chicago. Advik Mareedu also won the national singles title in the fall at the ITA Cup, before the SCIAC started its weekly awards program for the spring sports.

CMS will be back in action on March 22, when it faces Bowdoin at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
