Men's Tennis topples Cal Lu after strong Pac Coast Doubles

#3 CMS Stags Tennis concluded a four day road trip Sunday with a 9-0 shutout at #25 Cal Lutheran, after starting the long weekend at the 126th Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in La Jolla. Sophomore Max Macey (Wilton, CT [pictured right]) was  a straight set winner at #5 singles against the Kingsmen, remaining undefeated in three matches this spring.

In singles, Macey was joined by four other Stags who surrendered four games or less in their victories, including senior Joe Dorn (Washington D.C.), who clinched CMS' SCIAC opening win with a 6-1, 6-1 effort at the #3 position. Dorn was one of five Stags to win in both doubles and singles on the afternoon, teaming with partner Glenn Hull (So. - Brookings, OR) at #2 doubles for the first time. Senior captain Nik Marino (San Diego, CA) and junior Bryan Mehall (Snowmass Village, CO) earned their first dual match victory at #3 doubles, after a successful run at Pac Coast Doubles where they won their last five matches.

Perhaps most impressive on the weekend were the results of sophomore Daniel Morkovine (San Carlos, CA) and junior Skyler Butts (Santa Ana, CA). The duo earned three main draw wins at Pac Coast Doubles, including a win over Michigan's top team in the third round. Then on Sunday, the pair won comfortably at #1 doubles against the Kingsmen, and Morkovine got the Stags' first singles win of the afternoon at #4. Butts then completed CMS' shut out with his come from behind 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over one of the SCIAC's and West Region's top players Moises Cardenas, at the #1 spot.

CMS is now 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, and will co-host the Stag-Hen Invitational this Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.
