Weather and competition formidable at Pacific Coast Doubles

Six doubles teams represented CMS Stags Tennis at the 125th Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla this past weekend. CMS finished with a collective record of 7-6, as five of six teams advanced to the third round in a field made up of predominantly Division I and open teams.

Heavy and persistent rain forced a delayed start and truncated format, and yet the tournament avoided cancellation for the second time in its century and a quarter history. Two of the Stags' doubles pairs - Nik Marino (Jr. - San Diego, CA) and Zhenya Pereverzin (Sr. Capt. - Clackamas, OR) and Max Macey (Fr. - Wilton, CT) and Bryan Mehall (So. - Snowmass Village, CO) - won two matches each, while three of the other four CMS teams won one match each.

With five CMS doubles teams still competing Sunday morning amidst intermittent showers, the Stags were forced to cancel their scheduled dual match against Division I opponent Villanova. Next up for CMS is a trip north to Walla Walla, Washington, where the Stags will face hosts and 16th ranked Whitman College, followed by 8th ranked Trinity University in a double-header this Saturday. The trip concludes Sunday with a match against #12 UC Santa Cruz.
